Domain transfer is the process of moving a domain name from one registrar to another. Domains eligible for a transfer must have been with the current registrar for at least 60 days. Preparation for common top-level domains (TLDs) involve requesting an EPP transfer key with .UK domain transfers being the exception.
Moving domains internally between Enom accounts is called a push, this does not require a transfer.
Important: Should you wish to cancel your outgoing transfer, you must do so through the gaining provider.

Preparing your domain for transfer
To prepare a domain for transfer, the registrant will need to unlock the domain and then request the EPP key. Transfers take between five to seven days to complete from the date you initiate the transfer with your new provider.
Unlocking your domain
For customers registered through the Google reseller program, refer to alternate steps within the domain management portal. If the domain has been registered through an Enom reseller, they must prepare it for transfer on your behalf.
- Sign in to your account.
- Choose Domains followed by My domains.
- Locate the domain.
- Choose General settings from the domain management dropdown.
- Select Disable on the Registrar-Lock and Auto-Renew, then Save.
Requesting the transfer code
A transfer code, EPP key, or authorization code are all terms for the unique code needed to transfer your domain. While this unique code is valid for several days, we suggest initiating the transfer immediately. The EPP key can still be requested for expired domains, however, the registrant email cannot be changed after expiration.
Once you initiate your transfer, the transfer is automatic and takes five to seven days.
If your new provider advises that the code is not working, we can generate a new one for you.
Note: There is no way to request EPP keys in bulk.
- Sign in to your account.
- Choose Domains followed by My domains.
- Search for your domain or select it from the list.
- Choose General settings from the domain management dropdown.
- Select Email auth info to Registrant.
Note: The transfer key is sent to the domain registrant email, ensure it is valid. Changing the registrant email will prompt a 60-day transfer lock that can be opted out.
Ensuring transfers add a year of registration
The gaining registrar will typically add an extra year to the domain name registration upon transfer completion.
However, if a domain expires, is renewed during the grace period, and then transferred between registrars within 45 days of being renewed, the gaining registrar will charge for the transfer, but no additional year will be added. This is a registry restriction and applies to all registrars.
Important: Enom does not provide a refund for a domain that is renewed with us and then transferred away within the first 45 days after the expiration date.
Preventing domain downtime
To prevent your domain from going down during a transfer, we recommend using third-party nameservers or arranging for the receiving registrars' nameservers ready to use. Upon transferring your domain out of Enom our DNS service will terminate when we receive a transfer out request.
Access control violation name locking not allowed
A common reason for receiving this error is if the domain is under a 60-day transfer lock. The 60-day transfer lock applies when you update any of the following registrant contact information on any gTLD domain names (non-country code domains) in your Enom account. In some cases, this lock can be removed by our support team within five days of it being applied by submitting a verified support request.
- Registrant First Name
- Registrant Last Name
- Registrant Organization Name
- Registrant Email
Expediting an outgoing domain transfer
Once the transfer process has started, the registrant's email address will receive the approval email. Registrants can expedite their outgoing transfer by confirming the link.
- Select the link to approve or deny the domain transfer.
- Details about the transfer are listed and the option to approve or deny the request. Select approve and press Submit.
- Confirmation of your response will be recorded, and the transfer will be expeditated.
