The standard method to transfer domain names does not apply to .UK domain extensions. Instead, these domains must have their IPS tag updated and the registrar lock disabled.
Note: If the domain has expired, you need to contact support to update the tag.
Affected domain extensions
The following is a list of TLDs that can only be transferred by unlocking and supplying the new IPS tag.

Disabling the registrar lock
The Registrar lock feature can be disabled from within your account or by using our API if you are a reseller.
- Select Domains from the top toolbar and choose My domains from the drop-down menu.
- Click the domain name you are working with.
- Choose General settings from the domain overview page or from the manage domain dropdown.
- Set the Registrar-Lock status to Disable and press Save.
Updating the IPS tag
Your new domain registrar must provide their IPS tag to you to transfer the domain. You may also view the official Nominet list of registrar tags.
- Select Domains from the top toolbar and choose My domains from the drop-down menu.
- Click the domain name you are working with.
- Choose General settings from the Domain overview page or Manage domain dropdown.
- Enter the new registrar IPS tag and press Send.
Important: This action cannot be undone. - Once the IPS tag is updated, initiate the transfer with the gaining registrar.
